Bridge collapse in India(Morbi): A wake-up call,
Gulf News, November 09, 2022,L.E

Sir,In light of exponential expansion of Bangalore horizontally and the setting up of a large number of Information Technology parks(IT), increasing the number o f vehicles and more so after Corona-19 people have started going to offices Physically

I would like to give some valuable suggestions to ease out the traffic congestion in Bangalore, which can be examined. Though in these trying circumstances,Bangalore traffic is doing good work.

SPLIT WORKING TIME

In areas which experience heavy traffic in morning and evening, the government should suggest Information Technology(IT) companies/ large PSU's to divide their starting and closing working office hours in morning and evening,

Say they can change office hours with 15-20 minutes gap. Also these I.T companies could also be advised to employ some people on Saturday/Sunday so that the traffic load may further get divided on roads.

Example there are large number of IT parks,in Whitefield,Electronic city,Sarjapur road and near Manyata Technology park side

Another suggestion is start point to point Bus service from particular place in bangalore direct to IT parks

Traffic police department,Principal secretary Information Technology(IT) department can call a meeting of I.T companies and make a framework to implement this suggestion,

If these plans are successful, there will be some relief for commuters and traffic congestion may reduce in short to medium term till Metro connectivity improves and reaches all parts of Bangalore.

Fill up potholes(LE),
The Tribune,27th Aug,2022,L.E

Refer to ‘Pothole accidents’; roads have become death-traps due to potholes and no one feels safe. Many lives are lost and shock absorbers and wheel rims get destroyed. Either roads are not designed according to the correct engineering specifications or substandard material is used during construction.

Inadequate inspection and poor maintenance only aggravate the problem. The government must formulate a multi-pronged strategy to address the issue and identify the potholes and fill them up.

His idea of choosing the wok place near home is welcome.

A few more suggestions that can be considered that include spilit in the timings of working f mega IT parks into three slots.so as to bring about a tremendous reduction in traffic congestion in the morning and in the evening hours.Work on Metro construction should be more expediently by undertaking the construction day and night.

Sir,I would like to give some suggestions to ease out the traffic congestion in Bangalore. The government should divide working hours of companies and government departments in areas which experience heavy traffic.

At the same time, public transport system and conveyance arrangements by various companies should be encouraged in a big way. Also the companies could be advised to employ some people on Saturday so that the traffic load may get divided. If these plans are successful, it will have a positive impact on the Bangalore economy.

Prompt steps needed to ease congestion-L.E
Deccan Herald-December 2,19998, L.E.

Sir, The Karnataka Government should take some prompt medium-term steps to improve the transport system in Bangalore till an alternative mode of transport system in Bangalore till an alternative mode of transport system like the Elevated. Light Rail Transport System (ELRTS) is developed.

Over the year, there has been an exponential rise in the number of vehicles of all kinds in Bangalore and if the present trend continues, the total number of vehicles may cross one-million mark. This is alarming because our roads can hardly handle this volume of traffic and any increase in the number of vehicles will not be in con fortify with the carrying capacity of Bangalore’s roads.

Nowadays , it is very difficult for one to travel by buses or drive vehicles especially during peak hours. The increase in both human and vehicular population is the main roads in Bangalore. If the Government indicatives some steps, the number of vehicles could be reduced by 30 to 40 percent in six to twelve months.

For instance, the Government could start a new point-to –point semi-deluxe bus transport company to cater to the needs of office-goers, school and college students, tourists and others with the active involvement of the City-based private sector or corporate houses with equity Participation.

How best to ease traffic congestion in Bangalore.
Deccan Herald--June 10,1999, L.E.

Sir, The number of vehicles has been increasing in Bangalore day by day, making it difficult for urban planners, experts and traffic congestion. The vehicles may well cross the one-million mark in seven years if preventive measures are not taken forthwith.

I have some humble suggestions to offer. These , if implemented, could help ease congestion until alternative solutions like ELRTS, or fly over’s are ready.

First, Traffic management has become a big problem in arterial roads like M G road , Residency Road ect. One solution could be synchronizing the road corridor and recognizing the functions and priorities of the respective roads during peak hours. Effective use of the Outer Ring Road (the portion which is ready) could also be considered. As in the Gulf, we should emulate the area control should emulate the area control system. This system envisages observation of some select congested areas at certain hours, especially peak hours. Traffic could be diverted to less congested arterial roads. This could be done by installing video camera or by latest IT technology with master control at traffic police headquarters guiding the police personnel at strategic points in the City to diversify traffic to arterial roads/other places.

Secondly, Multi layer high-tech car parks should be effectively developed wherever parking is a big problem. After a study on the demands of parking space, car parks should be developed on BOT and an open bid basis with effective use of ground and basement floors for commercial purposes. Vehicle owners will be happy to see reliable service against a modest payment than park on payment.

Thirdly, All government and private offices should stagger their working hours with effective planning and rescheduling of activities. This would ease congestion on the roads.

Fourthly, more subways and flyovers are necessary in places like Trinity Circle. Subways should be given priority over flyovers to check pollution.

Fifthly, There is a need for proper alignment of the existing roads. The curves in many places are unsystematic as in the case of the entry to R T Nagar from TV Tower side.

And finally, Bangaloreans deserve an efficient and reliable public transport system which will discourage the use of personal transport especially during peak hours.

Sir, The Karnataka Government should plan something for stream lining Bangalore traffic. If not , by the end of 1997, with the addition of a large number of vehicles on the roads, arrival of foreign cars and the migration of NRIs to Bangalore, there will be no traffic moving the city will be a virtual chaos.

I have a few suggestions to offer

1. The government should implement a time bound master plan for cost effective, high quality, reliable traffic measures besides the early completion of Ring Road.
2. Partial privatization of bus services as well as point to point buses for employees and school children will also help.

If these measures, coupled with the strict enforcement of traffic laws, are implemented in right earnest, it will definitely help in bringing down the vehicles on the road by nearly 25 30 percent during peak hours.

Railway Crossings Dangerous railway crossings--15th May 2013--LE--Safety of people should be accorded top priority in J&K

Increased number of accidents on the unmanned railway crossings in Jammu and Kashmir is a matter of serious concern as they have resulted in loss of precious lives and injuries to many people due to train accidents.

Except for the people who lost their lives after jumping before the running trains, other people have become victims of train accidents due to unmanned railway crossings for no fault of theirs.

The number of accidents has been surprisingly high in populated areas on both sides of railway line because people continue to ply their vehicles or cross the railway lines on foot without caring for the running trains. Many a vehicles have been hit by the trains in the past. Unmanned crossings have continued to pose a serious threat to the people living in their close vicinity. The railway authorities have failed to honour their promises of manni&K despite the fact that the network of the railway lines is not that big compared to other parts of the country.

Despite fencing all the crossings to prevent accidents on the railway lines. Still a large number of crossings have remained unmanned in various parts of J and K,also fact that most of the railway lines are regularly patrolled by the authorities due to bad security situation in the state, still people and animals continue to stray on the tracks and become victims of accidents.

The safety measures initiated by the railway authorities are good but need to spread across the length and breadth of the state to prevent accidents in both regions of Kashmir and Jammu. Keeping in view the increasing network of railway lines in J&K, the authorities need to take safety of people on priority basis and ensure that there are no unmanned crossings. Such measures will go a long way in preventing accidents and save precious lives of the people.

I request you to keep taking up such issues concerning common man. I also want to draw your attention towards the huge funds being spent on road widening construction of underpasses and flyovers under JNNURM.

Though these funds are used for road safety and smooth traffic flow, pedestrians and the needs are neglected.

MAKE LIFE EASIER THOSE ON FOOT
DNA India 28 January 2009-L.E.

Dear sir,In the light of the shocking I deaths of four people in Indiranagar three of them pedestrians, I feel that the authorities need to be sensitized towards the plight of pedestrians in our city. There is a serious lack of safe pedestrian crossings and footpaths in Bangalore. A large amount of money is spent today on building underpasses, flyovers and for widening roads, but almost nothing is being done to make pedestrians safer. We continue to see reports of accidents involving pedestrians; almost 60 per cent of road deaths are of people on foot.

The authorities should pay attention to this problem immediately and prevent these unnecessary losses of human life.

Deccan Herald-07 December, 2009-L.E

Sir, I was extremely shocked by the tragic death of four pedestrians in Indira Nagar on Saturday (Missing footpaths, rising mishaps, Jan. 26). In fact, this is a replay of the Delhi BMW hit-and-run case where the driver ran away leaving behind his vehicle at the accident spot instead of rushing the victims to hospital. Today, murders are sensationalized but deaths in road accidents have not been taken seriously by the media and th6 government.

The city lacks safe pedestrian crossings and foot-paths. Huge funds are spent on high budgeted projects like road widening, asphalting, construction of underpasses and flyovers but the problems of pedestrians are not addressed effectively.

It is time for the authorities to look into the matter and construct under-passes, footpaths and pedestrian crossings and save the lives of people.

Sir, This refers to the editorial, "Rain exposes TN govt, civic bodies" (DH, Nov 19). The havoc caused by unprecedented, incessant rains in Chennai and nearby places is indeed sad. It has caused massive devastation leading to chaos, huge loss of lives and property This has yet again exposed the lack of preparedness on the part of our state governments to meet such eventualities. There is hardly any dedicated stagnancy to handle such natural calamities. in fact, our governments wake up only after tragedies has occured.
